I decided to go with a safe bet for this Oktoberfest battle for the main course and then try out some new German sides that sounded yummy. I started with German Potato Salad,  which is made sans mayo so you can sorta pretend it’s almost more healthy.  It’s served warm and made with bakers, hard boiled eggs, bacon and sauteed onions, apple cider vinegar, green onions, lots of mustard, and salt & pepper. Definitely a hit. iPhone photos don’t do the meal justice sorry..

Next I heated up a vat of beer and simmered the brats for about 5 minutes and then finished them off on the grill until they were nice and golden 🙂

Finally I plated the brats and potato salad with oven roasted green beans and almonds, sour dough baguette and a dallop of German whole grain mustard – and paired it with a couple Dunkelweizen. Prost!

About:

I'm a newlywed who has just uncovered my passion for grilling fresh, homemade food. I want my legacy to include being a "great cook" like my Dad, so I've got a lot of meals to practice between now and then. I don't like recipes or measuring stuff, I like to just rummage around for ingredients and mix and match, so this should be interesting...
